Register for the high school economics competition

ERI is an online economics and business competition for high school students. You enter one of five events and get a case: a real business or policy problem, with the numbers. You decide what should be done, and judges score how well the data backs you up and how clearly you get from it to your answer.

  • $25 per student, one event
  • Regionals online: February 22, 2027
  • Nationals online: March 27, 2027
  • Top three in each event win cash from a $2,000+ prize pool
  • Registration closes January 31, 2027 at 11:59 PM Eastern
Registration open

Registration form

Every field marked * is required. After you submit, you go to Stripe to pay the $25 fee. You are registered once the payment goes through.

Student
Fills in from the date of birth.
We send Regionals access here.
U.S. ZIP code, 5 digits.
School
Homeschool students: write “Homeschool” and the program name if there is one.
Two letters, like FL.
Leave blank if you are entering on your own.
Parent or guardian

Required for every student. We ask for both the student’s and a guardian’s phone number only so we can reach you quickly if something goes wrong during a testing round. We never sell your information, share it for advertising, or use it to track you.

Stripe emails the payment receipt to this address. That receipt is your proof of registration.
Event
You enter one event for the season. Compare the five events.
For example, extra time or a screen reader. We will email you about it.
Agreements

Card payment is handled by Stripe. ERI never sees card numbers. See our privacy policy.

The form takes about five minutes. Have these ready:

  • The student’s date of birth and school
  • A parent or guardian’s email and phone number
  • The event you want to enter
  • A card for the $25 fee

Registering more than one student? Fill in the form once for each student.

How to register

Three steps

  1. 01

    Fill in the registration form

It asks for the student’s details, school, a parent or guardian’s contact, and one event. Compare the events first, because you enter one for the season.

  2. 02

    Pay the $25 entry fee

The form sends you to Stripe to pay by card. Your registration ID is attached to the payment, so we can match the two.

  3. 03

    Keep your receipt

The emailed receipt is your proof of registration. ERI sends Regionals access instructions to the student and guardian before February 22.

Who can enter

You can enter if you are 13 to 18 years old on February 22, 2027, or if you are in high school (grades 9–12, homeschool included). You also have to live in the United States, D.C., or a U.S. territory. Age counts on February 22, 2027, the day of Regionals. If you are 12 now but turn 13 by then, you can enter. A registration that does not meet these rules is not valid.

If you can’t test on the date

There is no make-up date. Testing at a later time may be permitted upon special request. Email viyan@econstax.net as early as you can, with the date you can’t make and why.

Refunds

Entry fees are nonrefundable. Event choice can be changed until registration closes.

Your information

We use the form answers only to run the competition: to check eligibility, send Regionals access, and contact the student or guardian. We never sell them. A parent or guardian can ask to see, correct, or delete the student’s information at any time. The privacy policy has the details.

Prizes

The top three finishers in each event win cash prizes from a prize pool of at least $2,000. We announce the exact amounts in December 2026.
